CONTENT PRODUCER

Location: Los Angeles

The Role:

The Content Producer will work with the Marketing and E-Commerce team through the development of cross-channel content strategy. You are critical to building external relationships for the brand, in the way of branded partnerships and fundamental to the creation of content across Soko’s channels e.g. email marketing, shopsoko.com and social media. This role will work extremely closely with the VP of Marketing, E-commerce Product Manager and various agencies (including PR) to create a unified tonal and visual representation of the brand and drive ongoing sales to shopsoko.com and our retail partners. This individual will be tasked with successfully completing 2-3 ROI positive brand partnerships/activations for 2017. Additionally, you will have frequent interactions with the US based team and our team in Kenya. This role is very much hinged on a self-starter mentality with the dedication to grow a global brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and create to help realize Soko’s content strategy
  • Review digital marketing and wholesale marketing strategy to deliver copy + design execution
  • Build a visual editorial calendar in relation to seasonal cadence and product launches
  • Regularly report on the effectiveness of onsite / offsite content in terms of direct and indirect economic benefit to shopsoko.com
    - Identify new and incremental opportunities for Soko, assist in securing new partnerships based on the strategies of the marketing, e-commerce, wholesale and design team, as well as the facilitating the day to day management of said relationships
    - Research potential strategic partnerships and initiatives
    - Think and work across paid and non-paid opportunities to build brand awareness, including events, influencer programs, brand partnerships, social media and media relations
  • Oversee and manage blog – ensuring relevant, compelling and engaging visual and written content to drive sales to shopsoko.com that creates a unique social shopping space and supports strategic marketing initiatives. Responsible for ongoing maintenance and performance of the blog.
  • Ensures alignment and support of the big picture—working closely with shopsoko.com, all social media accounts and special projects to ensure consistent brand voice/vision
  • Role requires creative and brand-centric focus on developing relevant, timely content across platforms – including writing, photography, visual acumen, knowledge of industry trends and influencers, pr, corporate events and culture, etc.

You Have:

  • 2-4 years of relevant work experience
  • 3+ years in working directly or indirectly with key digital marketing channels. E.g., email, SEO/PPC, display/retargeting, and social media.
  • Expertise across offline marketing channels including events, brand partnerships, and PR
  • Experience with a “test and learn” culture, especially as applied to content
  • Strategic thinking and analytical ability to gather and apply key business insights
  • A love of writing, photography and content production
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to compromise, the ability to give feedback in an effective and constructive manner, and the desire to work with skill sets across the entire organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, team environment
  • A can do attitude with the willingness to roll up your sleeves to make things happen

SOCIAL MEDIA INTERN

Location: Los Angeles

The Social Media Intern will support Soko’s US marketing and e-commerce operations. The Social Media Intern will interact daily with the LA-based marketing team and will also partner closely with our fellow and team based in Kenya. This role will oversee all elements of our proprietary social media channels from Instagram to Pinterest. It is critical that this individual feel comfortable with reaching out to new partners, shooting any necessary content all the while remaining flexible with the ongoing trends and changes of the industry and Soko’s business needs. This individual will receive a hands-on experience in building and growing a brand across departments + platforms, taking innovative strategies to market, and developing the on-going strategy for Soko’s social media.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with social media engagement by helping manage Soko’s social channels
  • Help manage scheduled posts for daily content across all social media platforms
  • Support the monthly conversation calendar process by:
    - Ideating concepts for social posts
    - Ordering samples and requesting assortment pages
    - Coordinate the receiving of product samples and production of social photo shoots
  • Monitor social media web analytics on a weekly basis (e.g. page views, twitter followers, engagement activity…etc).
  • Provide reports on growth and trends across social media platforms
  • Engage with members of marketing + e-commerce teams on a regular basis to brainstorm ideas for innovative marketing and social media campaigns
  • Publish evergreen content to Pinterest
  • Assist with conceiving real time social activations on Snapchat + Instagram stories

You Are:

  • Based in Los Angeles
  • Currently pursuing Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and entering final year of school. Would not exclude recent graduates from 2017
  • Available to work 15-20 hours per week
  • Knowledgeable about social media and have experience with Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and other platforms
  • Flexible, with a self-starting attitude
  • Excellent with time management skills and work well with a deadline
  • Passionate about all things social media

PHOTOGRAPHY/VIDEO INTERN

Are you a creative thinker who loves to tell stories through imagery and film? We’re looking for a style-savvy and self-starting photography and/or video intern to join our Marketing team at Soko this summer. Help us leverage our unique brand and story as we engage and grow our customer community while building our online brand presence, through beautiful and innovative visual content. Merge your interests in photography, fashion, and social good by joining the Soko team this summer!

Responsibilities Include:

  • Visual Content: Work with our Marketing Manager and other interns to plan and execute photoshoots for campaigns, developing visual content for social media, email newsletters, website, and online ads
  • Video Content: Create behind the scenes videos, product videos, or style guides. Come up with creative ways to use video to showcase our product and help define the role of video in our digital marketing
  • Social Media: Create visual content for Instagram and Pinterest, manage Snapchat; be at the forefront of new social media trends and networks for photo/video

Qualifications:

  • Basic DSLR camera knowledge
  • Photography or Film experience
  • Basic editing skills (photoshop or lightroom, mobile editing tools such as VSCO)
  • Interest in or basic experience in design (layouts, type)

Internships take place in our US offices in San Francisco, where you’ll help us inaugurate our brand new HQ and retail space! Interns are expected to work 20 hours per week and attend additional events as needed. Interns are paid a stipend, and if approved by your school, we’d love to help you receive college credit.

MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT INTERN

We're looking for an entrepreneurial, style-savvy, motivated marketing intern to work directly with our Marketing and Sales teams across all areas of marketing, biz dev, ecommerce, and PR within the company. This is the perfect opportunity for a digitally-driven individual interested in gaining experience in strategy development and implementation at a social enterprise.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Social Media Management: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Snapchat
  • Retail Growth Strategy: identify target audiences and sales opportunities, research and outreach to potential retailers
  • Content Creation and Styling: work with other interns to ideate and create visual and written content for social media
  • PR: build our relationships with influencers and bloggers in the fashion community through research and creative outreach
  • Campaigns: work with Marketing Manager to plan, execute, and analyze marketing campaigns
  • Events: Organize and promote events in our brand new retail space

Qualifications:

  • Love for and deep understanding of social media for day-to-day management of Soko’s Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter
  • Relevant experience in marketing, sales, retail, and/or outreach
  • Excellent writer with a keen interest in style, development, and who possesses a global mindset

CONTENT AND PHOTOGRAPHY FELLOW

Join Soko in Kenya to document the livelihoods and creative processes of artisans working across Kenya in rural, slum and urban environments. We are looking for inspired, talented and curious individuals interested in economic and social development, technology and the arts to join us to help tell an important story about the creativity and resilience of artisans in the developing world. You must have professional photography experience and a portfolio that highlights your ability to capture people, context and fashion in a compelling way.
