Behind the Scenes: Casting

Posted on

Soko artisans create cast pieces by melting down scrap metal that are locally-sourced from belt buckles, door handles, and other spare parts found in the second hand markets and waste streams.

Soko artisans create cast pieces by melting down scrap metal that are locally-sourced from belt buckles, door handles, and other spare parts found in the second hand markets and waste streams. This process reveals the advantage of brass over other materials – that most of our cast products are created from recycled and reused metals, creating on-trend designs that also make powerful statements.

We followed our artisan George, who works in Rongai (just outside Nairobi), through the process of creating a cast pendant for our Soko x Pencils of Promise collaboration. George is one of our master craftsmen, who has spent years honing his technique to achieve the highest quality pieces and produce the #sokostyle that we love!
