The Maasai are an African ethnic group whose breathtaking beadwork designs are culturally symbolic ornamentation that represent stages in life and status within the community. The Namayiana Women’s Collective was begun by mothers and older women from two Maasai communities - most of whom could not read - who were determined to use their skills to feed, educate, and clothe their children. Currently at 112 members, the Collective claim to use their wisdom of life to support their community, and aim to pass on these skills to the next generation; preserving and promoting traditional artwork and heritage.
